Product Description

If you think French food is complicated, decadent, and heavy, think again! If you think learning and exploring another language is difficult or boring, think again! And if you think cooking French food and learning French at the same time is impossible, teacher and home cook Elisabeth de Châtillon is here to prove you wrong. It might sound too good to be true, but The Hands On French Cookbook is full of healthy, simple French recipes that you can make for friends and family while you learn not only the French language but also a little bit about French culture in a relaxed, fun, tasty way.

Author's Note: I chose 10 recipes especially for your cooking as well as language lessons. Cooking the recipes will help you actively learn the language: "What the hand does, the mind remembers..." My favorite quote from Maria Montessori. That is why this book has been inspired by TPR (Total Physical Response), a fun, hands-on teaching tool that allows you to learn a language by incorporating specific physical tasks with commands. It's the same way you learned your native language through looking, listening, responding and doing. You can make this cookbook your own. Learn actively some French at your own pace while cooking simple and easy recipes to follow. By the way, since it is a bilingual book in French and English, French readers will also learn English words and phrases.

Some main dish and dessert recipes include:

Crustless Quiche with Yellow Squash, Ricotta and Parmesan
Buckwheat Crepes with Salmon
Potatoes Gratin
Silky Chocolate Mousse
Yogurt Cake
Kings' Galette with Almond Cream

Last but not the least, I wanted readers to hear how to pronounce the French words and phrases, so I recorded myself reading the main recipes in French. To listen to the recordings that go with this book, please visit This will help you practice the French pronunciation as you read this book at your own pace.

The Hands On French Cookbook makes a wonderful gift for holidays and birthdays.
Also available for Kindle and Kindle Unlimited.

Review

★★★★★ "This is a cookbook unlike any I have seen before! It is written in both French and English and would be the perfect fun activity for someone learning French who wanted hands on practice reading it. The recipes are also French, so very different than what I am use to seeing, but intriguing. Gorgeous pictures accompany each recipe as well." --Kate Z, Reviewer from Netgalley

★★★★ "The Hands On French Cookbook is the most unique cookbook that I have ever laid my hands on. The author takes French cooking and throws in a brand new twist - learn the French language at the same time! I love this idea! My daughter has been studying French for several years, and she can't wait to use this cookbook. It brings together two of her favorites - food and French!" --Kory Dordea, Educator

★★★★★ "This is the first bilingual cookbook I've read, and I absolutely love the teaching approach and the author sharing her background and experience with interactive methods and concepts, such as Montessori instruction and TPR (Total Physical Response), that teach language acquisition naturally through commands and body movements. I knew I would like this cookbook from the jump, as it begins with a favorite quote from Maria Montessori: "What the hand does, the mind remembers." This is a great resource for beginners in French looking for an easy, hands-on language learning guide that also includes cultural references." --Whitney Pergram, Reviewer

★★★★ "I have been studying French for about 6 months now and found this cookbook to be very interesting. It had a great variety of recipes and was a fun way to work on functional translations. I also liked how there were ways to adapt the recipes for dietary needs and for taste preferences." --Amy St Jean, Reviewer from Netgalley

★★★★ "Amazing cookbook with so much information and definitely a different take on your traditional book. I really enjoyed all the different lessons to be found inside and the recipes also." --The Feral Housewife

★★★★★ "Interesting and unique way to learn to cook French and learn the language at the same time. First of a kind in my long line of reading, and a great way to introduce muscle memory to learn a second language. What did I like? My first bilingual cookbook, had no idea there was such a thing. I've always been a big fan of teaching muscle memory and this was such a unique idea. It's not an overwhelming cookbook with only ten recipes but it's definitely a unique idea. What the hand does.... the mind remembers. Five main meals and five desserts of French cuisine and the book ends with variations of the recipes. Would I recommend or buy? This is a great way to introduce yourself to a new language. All the while enjoy food or recipes from the culture. This would be a great class exercise for teachers teaching French to pretty much anyone. I'd recommend it to anyone looking to try authentic French dish and learn some of the language as well." --Johanna Sawyer, Reviewer from Netgalley
