From the Author

Every one of us has a story to tell, an inner story that is our particular truth, or a story told purely for entertainment. Stories are a way to live in the world at a deeper level or to escape the world and live in the world of the imagination. Whatever kind of writer you are, I hope this book will serve as a valuable resource.

From the Inside Flap

In addition to a comprehensive list of non-fee-charging publishers, The Big Book of Small Presses and Independent Publishers reveals that there are backdoor methods for getting manuscripts considered by New York publishers such as Knopf, Avon, and Algonquin.
You will also learn about the most financially rewarding big-time prizes, such as the prestigious Bellwether Prize and the many substantial prizes of $1,000, $2,000 and more that are awarded for poetry collections, novels, novellas, and short story collections.
If you've written a children's book, discover which presses provide artwork and which ones consider artwork submitted with your manuscript. And, if you've finished and edited a memoir, you'll want to compare publishers who publish them.
Each listing is quickly searchable by keywords, such as "New Writer," "Sci fi," "Creative Nonfiction," or "Steampunk." These keywords allow you to scan the 350+ entries and see which publishers are looking for work in these categories.
