Gabe falling asleep in class
Gabe Book Series

Product Description

Gabe is a night owl, who pays the price every morning.

Rather than get all the nighttime sleep he needs to keep his body healthy and mind alert, Gabe stays awake into the wee hours playing games and watching videos. Now, it's taking a toll.

  • He nods off during class
  • He's sluggish on the soccer field,
  • And he's an all-around grouch.

His energy is zapped, like a battery about to die.

To help her son get much-needed shuteye, Mom lays down the law - Gabe cannot use or access any electronics between bedtime and morning breakfast. But when Gabe breaks the rule on night one, his alarm clock, named Buzz, comes to life. Buzz reminds Gabe he should be sleeping, not playing, and promises Gabe he'll feel better, think better, and perform better if he just relaxes and rests.

Will Gabe really listen to a talking clock, and will he stick to Mom's rule? Or will he choose more sleepless nights and exhausted days?

Rest to Recharge offers a light-hearted look at a serious issue - the power of sleep and its ability to heal, rejuvenate, and energize the body and the mind! A special tips page written specifically for adults offers suggestions on how to help children develop better sleep habits.

Other titles in this series include Pause Power and Practicing Patience. All three of these books help young readers learn how to manage difficult emotions and be more independent.

Review

Sleep has increasingly become a concern for kids in our society, partly due to the increase in technology available to them. Jennifer has a great way of explaining the importance of sleep and providing practical tips for kids to try. Easy for kids to read on their own, or with an adult using the provided guide for discussion. --Laura Sorensen, Elementary School Counselor

Offers a light-hearted look at a serious issue for children and adults alike -- the power of sleep and its ability to heal, rejuvenate, and energize the body and the mind! Of special note is the tips page written specifically for adults offers suggestions on how to help children develop better sleep habits. "Rest to Recharge: A Story about the Importance of Sleep" is especially and unreservedly recommended for family, daycare center, preschool, elementary school, and community library Life Skills picture book collections for children ages 4-11. --Children's Bookwatch, Midwest Book Review

As an adult, I think we all wish we had taken better advantage of those naps everyone tried to get us to take as children. The importance of sleep is whimsically explained in the fun and informative book Rest to Recharge, written by Jennifer Law, when Gabe sees how sleeping recharges his batteries so he can have more energy each morning. Families struggling to get their kiddos into bed at night will appreciate the techniques Gabe practices to help himself fall asleep and stay in bed, such as deep breathing and removing electronics from the bedroom, which can be easily used in the real world. Overall, a fun read that educates as well as entertains. --Dr. Orr, Pediatrician
