Donald P. Ridgway, RVT

A vascular technologist and emeritus professor at Grossmont College in California, Don Ridgway helped establish the first vascular technology curriculum to receive American Medical Association/CAAHEP accreditation. He brings teaching skills from several areas of expertise, not only ultrasound but also writing, fencing (swords, not chain-link), bluegrass banjo, mandolin, guitar, and Dobro—skills that inform his lessons on maintaining the best beam angles and proper ergonomics.

Barton A. Bean, RVT, FSVU

D.E. Strandness, MD

Dr. Strandness pioneered the use of Doppler ultrasound to diagnose vascular disease, served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Vascular Surgery at the University of Washington, Seattle, lectured throughout the world, and authored dozens of books and hundreds of articles before his death in 2002. The Society for Vascular Ultrasound (SVU) annually awards the Strandness Scientific Award for Excellence in Scientific Research in honor of the 'Father of Noninvasive Diagnosis.'

Don brings teaching skills from several different disciplines and areas of experience: He has taught writing and fencing (swords, not chain-link) at San Diego University, and for ten years he played and taught bluegrass banjo, mandolin, guitar, and Dobro. He still gets to pick occasionally when he is not on call, lecturing, or grading quizzes.
Cindy Owen is the author of Ultrasound Physics Review, ScoreCards for Vascular Technology, and Abdominal Sonography Review. A former ARDMS and ICAVL board member, Cindy is Global Manager of Luminary & Research Programs for GE Healthcare. Cindy lives with her family in Memphis and enjoys riding her horse Gus.
