Product Description

With over 20 years of experience between them, clinical therapists Christy Cosper and Darrin Ford have poured their expertise and personal discoveries into a book designed for healing and growth from addictive behaviors. Steeped in science and grounded in mindfulness, the authors have written a workbook for the addict that examines the poison of addiction, offers antidotes, and raises awareness of the self. Written in both the first and third person, Transforming the Addictive Mind contains a variety of voices who have treated and struggled through addiction. The exercises, meditative activities, case studies, and personal stories are written simply enough to follow, while having the elements needed to foster honesty, compassion, and gentleness with one's self and relationship to others.

About the Author

Darrin Ford is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in treating addictive disorders. His practice began in Long Beach, California and has extended over the years and as co-founder of Sano Center for Recovery, he currently serves as the chief executive officer, runs intensive workshops, and mentors new therapists. He is certified by the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, and as a certified Sex Addiction Therapist, he was trained directly by the pioneer of the field, Dr. Patrick Carnes. In his years of treating those afflicted with addiction, he ascertained the keystone of mindfulness in breaking free from old patterns, habits, and ways of thinking. Steeped in his passion for science and Buddhist philosophy, he co-founded the Mindfulness-Based Addiction Therapy Certification Program (MBAT TM). His expertise in the field of addictive behaviors can be found in the program, which takes a modern approach to Eastern techniques in exploring the mind. His next book, Awakening to the Addictive Mind: A Story of and Guide to Recovery will be available in 2018. Christy Cosper currently serves as the co-founder and Clinical Director of Sano Center for Recovery; an intensive out patient treatment center focusing on sex addiction recovery. She is also a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Sex Addiction Therapist, co-creator of the Mindfulness-Based Addiction Therapy Model (MBAT), and an AAMFT approved clinical supervisor. Christy has extensive experience in the field of Addictive Disorders along with other Mental Health Disorders. She is also a relationship expert, specializing in the restoration of relationships with chronic discord. Christy has been working as a clinician in a private practice setting since 2007. In addition to clinical work, Christy also leads intensive weekend workshops and hosts educational and spiritual retreats that focus on healing and improving relationship with self. Her practice includes a wide range of services such as: individual therapy; couples therapy; family therapy; group therapy for men, women and partners; mindfulness-based relapse prevention; recovery coaching; partner coaching; and psycho-education services.
