Product Description

The little girl in NOWHERE HAIR knows two things: Her mom's hair is not on her head anymore, so therefore it must be somewhere around the house. After searching the obvious places, the story reveals that her mother, although going through cancer treatment, is still silly, attentive, happy and yes, sometimes very tired and cranky. She learns that she didn't cause the cancer, can't catch it, and that Mommy still is very much up for the job of mothering. The book, written in rhyme, explains hats, scarves, wigs, going bald in public, and the idea of being nice to people who may look a little different than you. It ends with the idea that what is inside of us is far more important than how we look on the outside. For any parent or grandparent, NOWHERE HAIR offers a comfortable platform to explain something that is inherently very difficult. Recommended by the American School Counselor Association and LIVESTRONG. Used in more than 100+ cancer centers.

Review

"Mary tells me her 8-year-old went into her room, closed the door & read your book ... and came out of her room laughing hysterically. I'm so thankful." - Julie, whose niece was very angry about her mother's hair loss

"I took this book on vacation with us right after I found out I had cancer. We knew that I had to have chemo but I didn't know exactly how to explain the side effects to my girls who were 9 and 6. This book was the answer. Beautiful illustrations and funny, insightful text. We read it as a family and discussed it and I was able to tell them that the book was about me. It helped them ask questions and know what to expect. It was a lifesaver." - Angela

"Everyday, families with young children ask us for help in talking to their children about cancer, hair loss, and surgery. Nowhere Hair provides a great starting place for talking to children about cancer - and the outward things that can be so scary to children and adults. It has just the right tone and provides comfort and solace, to the young and the not so young!" - Laura Esserman, MD, MBA Director UCSF Carol Franc Buck Breast Care Center, San Francisco, California

" What has been a pleasant surprise is that older patients have embraced Nowhere Hair as a means to talk to their grandchildren about their cancer journey." John E. Hennessy, Executive Director, CCP Kansas City Cancer Center, Kansas City, Missouri

"I just handed out one of your books last night to a 31-year-old, single mom of a 3 year old. She LOVED your book and cried when she saw the illustrations. She has not been able to talk to her child yet - fearing what to say. She said the book will help in that transition." Jen Steen-Reavis, RN, BSN, Breast Cancer
Nurse Navigator Northwest Cancer Care, Portland, Oregon
