2019 Readers' Favorite Honorable Mention in Non-Fiction/Education genre******************************************************************* "While authors writing in the field of their profession tend to offer their services and distract readers with their sales pitches, the author of Learn to Fly and Become a Pilot! dives deep into the meat of the matter and delivers crucial information that readers need to know. The writing is awesome, fluid and accessible. The writing is enriched by the author's vast experience in the field and this experience is deftly woven into the text."

  • Christian Sia for Readers' Favorite
"This book does a great job of laying out all the options and paths to a career in aviation. Having the best information on hand helps people make the best decisions possible. I wish I had this book when I was beginning my flight training! It would have made some decisions a lot easier."
  • Preston Seckman, Falcon 7X / Legacy 650 Corporate Airline Captain
"Vesa's book can help those undecided to find if they have the necessary capabilities to embrace a career in the aviation field as a pilot. Its name says all about the content. The book explains the existing options to become a pilot and offers the pros and cons of each one. In a word, Vesa's book resembles a check-list of the steps to be followed before making the definitive decision to become a pilot. As well, the inserted links save time in search of resources. The book is written in a simple and easy to "digest" language. Certainly, this reading will help clarify questions about identifying funding, types of aviation schools, types of services provided by airlines, and aspects of human factors e.t.c. The book may be of interest not only for future students but also for their parents. Vesa writes in a motivating and inspiring style. Looking forward to seeing his next book of the Pilot Career Series."
  • Andrei Ciobanu, Electronics Maintenance Technician, and Aviation Industry Enthusiast
"Vesa has succeeded in providing structure to a complicated question: how to enter the world of aviation. We all might know someone active in the business who are able to provide their experience but lacking more options. Exactly here Vesa provides useful info on a lot of aspects of the road to becoming a professional pilot. It is not a complete guide including all options as that is nearly impossible to record. What it does tell you is where to look and give you useful tips on most aspects which can often be overlooked. An enjoyable read, which certainly is useful for aspiring pilots who intend to train and fly in the United States."
  • Elzo Middelkoop, Boeing 747 Captain
"Vesa talks from his personal experience, both as a pilot as well as a flight instructor, on what it takes to become a pilot and the inside world of flying and the advantages and disadvantages of it. The book is divided into many chapters that cover these topics such as why become a pilot, various pilot career paths and options, the downside of being a professional pilot, certificates, education, and background required, the cost of training, flight schools, and how to figure out if flying is the right career choice for one, among other things. There are many additional resources and a bio provided at the end of this book.I enjoyed reading Learn To Fly And Become A Pilot! by Vesa Turpeinen and found it a very informative and instructive book, and yet at the same time fun to read. This is a great book for anyone interested in the exciting world of flying aircraft and in learning more about that lifestyle."

Product Description

Don’t think you can become a pilot? I think you can – learning to fly is easier than you think!

Have you always dreamed of becoming a pilot?

Are you wondering if now is a good time to become a pilot?

Do you want to get started with flight training, but need help choosing a school?

All your questions will be answered in this book! This book may be the most important book you will ever read if you want to become a professional pilot…

But first a warning, this is not a book about “learning to fly” in a literal sense. You won't learn how aerodynamics work or how to control an aircraft in flight – that's something you will learn once you start your flight training. Instead, this book contains information that flight schools won’t teach you. The information you NEED to know before you should commit to flight training!

The knowledge you gain from this book is essential for you to have a successful and enjoyable career as a commercial or airline pilot! The main focus of the book is on FAA and EASA flight training in the U.S., but most of the principles apply regardless of your nationality.

Whether you want to earn your private pilot certificate, become a corporate pilot, or become a captain in a major airline – this book is for you. And one note to the ladies – it is now the golden age for female pilots!

Did you know you could become a commercial pilot, or even a flight instructor, at the age of 18 with less than 12 months of training? Right now is an excellent time to become a pilot because there is a global pilot shortage that is expected to last for the next two decades or longer. Boeing estimates that there will be a worldwide demand for 790,000 pilots between 2018 and 2037. That’s a lot of pilots! How do I know the pilot shortage is not just a myth?

Currently, most airlines in China are hiring airline captains from foreign countries because there are not enough Chinese pilots. And what’s the pay like? Boeing 737 or Airbus 320 captains can earn an annual salary up to $380,000! That’s over 30k per month! …and, wait for it—it’s all tax-free (in China)! Yes, it will be a long road to become an airline captain earning a good salary. But guess what? Reading this book will help you decide if you want to pursue the career.

Who is this Author?

With Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Vesa knows a thing or two about aviation. With several years as a flight instructor, assistant chief flight instructor, and ultimately as the Chief Flight Instructor of a major flight academy, he is an expert in pilot training. Having trained hundreds of pilots who currently work for many airlines (including many Chinese airlines), he has the first-hand knowledge of the demand for new pilots. Because of his experience as a corporate airline captain, he understands the benefits and downsides of pilot life and can help you decide whether it’s a good career path for you!

Flight training is fast-paced, fun, and exciting. Why not get started now?

Here are some of the questions this book will answer:

  • How much does flight training cost?
  • How can I finance flight training without any savings or income?
  • What are the benefits and downsides of a pilot career?
  • What kind of certificates and ratings do I need to start working as a professional pilot?
  • How to choose the best flight school (and flight instructor) based on my individual needs?

From the Author

Interview with the Author Vesa Turpeinen
If you had to explain this book in one sentence, what would you say?

I think my subtitle says it all, but let's try something else... This is the definitive guide for an aspiring pilot to decide whether a pilot career is something he/she should pursue, and how to choose a flight school that's best for your needs!

Who are the major influencers on your life and philosophy?

Well, I read a lot - normally at least one book per week or so. So most people who influence me (outside of my family of course) are authors. Some of the most influential authors for me are:
Non-fiction: Ray Brehm, Michael Rogan, Gundi Gabrielle, Joanna Penn, Hans Rosling, Derek C. Doepker, Mike Michalowicz, Shawn Stevenson, David F. Leucher, William K. Kershner, Robert Lawrence, Michael D. Hayes, Fletcher McKenzie, Richard L. Collins, Tony Kern, Blake Mycoskie, Gregory N. Brown

Fiction: Steven King, Larry Niven, John Grisham, Lee Child, Robert R. McGammon
What other authors or books influenced you to write this one?
Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger - Highest Duty
Stephen King - On Writing,
Robert Lawrence - HOW TO BECOME AN AIRLINE PILOT: Achieve Your Dream Without Going Broke
Tony Kern - Flight Discipline
Ivan Luciani - An Aviator's Journey, Tales of a Corporate Pilot
Cody Bias - The Low-Cost Pilot's License - How to Save Thousands on Flight Training
Blake Mycoskie - Start Something that Matters
What are some of the major ideas that you integrate into this book or your life in general?
Basically, I try to inspire people to become pilots - most people don't realize that becoming a pilot may not be as difficult as they might think. You can train to become a commercial pilot in 12 months or less, and right now is an excellent time to get started with a pilot's career.
There is a global shortage of pilots, which is predicted to last for at least the next two decades. While flight training is very expensing I explain in the book about many different financing options - I even provide a list of applicable scholarships for those who are interested.
Another big part of the book is explaining the downsides of a pilot career - working as a professional pilot is not a lifestyle that is suitable for everyone. I explain both the benefits and downsides of the career so any aspiring pilots can make a well-informed decision whether to pursue flight training.
The reason I love to fly could be explained with the following passage from the book:

"I often find myself thinking how lucky I'm sitting here at 39,000 feet, at night, over Siberia, heading to Alaska With our instrument panels dimmed to a minimum, the sky above us is bright with stars, planets, and colorful northern lights, and we can see blinking satellites flying by on the orbit, with Milky Way on the background. It's a sight most people will never experience, and even the best cameras won't make it justice."
If you could not use your current book title, what would be another choice?
I would probably call it: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly sides of becoming a professional pilot! The Ultimate Guide for Learning What It Takes to Earn Your Wings - and Make a Living Out of It!
One of my test readers came up with that title, but I felt "the good, the bad, and the ugly" sounded a bit cliched - otherwise, I think it would describe my book very nicely!
