book, THINX, Period, womens health, womens sexuality, self-help

Packed with invaluable information about sexual health that everyone should know, but might be too afraid to ask.

With sections on anatomy, periods, hormones, sex, contraception, fertility, hair care, and so much more, this fun-to-read guide helps readers make healthy decisions for their bodies.

Compelling personal essays from a diverse group of luminary figures—including Margaret Cho, Roxane Gay, and Blair Imani—are sprinkled throughout, enriching the pages with beauty, strength, and honesty.

Advice includes yoga poses to help with PMS and cramping, a cheat sheet for making sense of contraception options, why you should care about your pelvic floor (plus easy strengthening exercises!), and an illustrated history of period products, from ancient Egypt through today.

book, THINX, Period, womens health, womens sexuality, self-help

Ever wondered how people with periods dealt with things before tampons, pads, or Thinx existed?

As it turns out, there isn’t a lot of information about how early civilizations handled menstruation. Scribes (who were mostly men) didn’t really write about periods. To be fair, our ancestors tended to menstruate much less. They started their flows in their late teens, spent more time pregnant or breastfeeding, hit menopause earlier, and died earlier. (Rough.) From what we do know, it seems like they used wool, cotton lint wrapped around splinters of wood (ouch?!), and whatever else was lying around to fashion pads and tampons on the fly.
