Review

★★★★★

"This book is about understanding, healing, and growing in relationships, and the author gives Reflection Questions and Words of Encouragement at the end of each chapter. This is a good tool for readers who are looking for  recovery from trauma and self-healing. The personal stories and experiences shared in this book are heartbreaking, and they also testify to faith in hope and healing. The emotions are raw and honest and will encourage readers who find themselves in similar situations to go into their past and process the events slowly and practice compassion. Truth is bright and it is always important to reach out. This is a good book for those who are in the process of picking up the shards of their lives and getting past their traumas. Anita M. Oommen's story also gives voice to readers with similar stories and tells them that it is not too late to heal the past and build a future with resilience"

From the Author

We humans are stories with a soul. Mine contains childhood trauma, survival and growth through the discovery of treasures in the broken shards of my past. The rearview mirror of my life reveals strength, resilience, forgiveness and personal transformation. Over the course of decades, I battled with emotional giants of rejection, fear and feelings of worthlessness to the point of believing that I wasn't worthy of living life. I had internalized negative messages that turned my world upside down as a grown adult. I took on a journey from despair to healing and built a new life, rebuilding my life from the ground up moving from wounded child to healed warrior.

Words have the power to impact change. I have been called to write and encourage others with my stories of transformation by braving transparency.

I know there is someone out there who needs to hear this today:

You can face the broken shards of your life. Your broken past does not need to define your future. You are seen, loved and you belong in this world.

♥ You matter.

♥ Your story matters.

♥ You are irreplaceable.

♥ The world needs you.

You were created by design for purpose in this world--a purpose that only you can fulfill!

Anita is passionate about sharing, inspiring, and pointing others towards hope and paying forward the healing she has experienced.

From the Inside Flap

Praise for Picking Up The Shards
"If you are ready to break the cycle of family dysfunction, Picking Up The Shards is the book for you! I have seen the cycle of dysfunction tear through families. As a mental health nurse (for the past twenty-five years), I have seen the cycle of dysfunction tear through families. As a child of abuse, I related and connected with Anita as she shares her deepest feelings. As you read her story, you can feel her pain and sense strength at the same time. Her story helps you realize you are not alone. She validates your feelings of past abandonment and neglect by confronting her own feelings in order to open doors to healing. I would recommend this book to anyone ready to heal and put the pieces of their life back together." -Kelly Walk Hines, Bestselling Author of Memoirs of an Invisible Child, Recipient of the Heartland Hero Award by NJ Heartland

"The best thing about Anita's book is that she is completely vulnerable. The traumatic experiences of her past help her relate to people on a personal level. As she has worked through her own attachment trauma and other childhood pain, she has become a beacon of hope and light to those struggling with the same thing. And she demonstrates all this through her book."
-Rachel Penning McCracken, Author, editor, Chasing Kites Publishing

"It is this amazing book... a Memoir... it is so raw and real. It is beautifully done... it was so relatable. It was such a healing experience for me."
-Qat Wanders, Bestselling author, editor, Wandering Words Media
