What is Fenugreek Seeds?

Fenugreek is small stony seed from the pod of a bean-like plant. These seeds are hard, yellowish brown and angular. Some are oblong, some rhombic, other virtually cubic. They are available whole and dried, or as a dull yellow powder ground from the roasted seeds as dry roasting enhance the flavor and reduces the bitterness. Fenugreek is an ancient spice and is mostly used in Middle East, Northern- Eastern Africa and India, especially for pickles. In India, its fresh leaves are eaten as a tasty vegetable, which is prepared like spinach. Fennel, which grows well in mild climates, is an oval, green or yellowish brown dried aromatic ripe fruit of an herbaceous plant called Foeniculum Vulgare, a member of Parsley family. Obtained from an aromatic and medicinal plant, the seeds emit a pleasant odor, are highly aromatic and have a pungent flavor.

Culinary Uses:

Traditionally, fenugreek seeds are being used in a wide range of culinary recipes, especially in the spice mix. The seeds, either whole, sprouted, ground, sauce, or as paste used in a variety of savory dishes in many parts of the Middle-East, India, Mediterranean, and Central Asian regions. Since fenugreek seeds possess a strong aroma and bitter taste, they should be added in small quantities to food to enjoy! Just toast under a low flame to mellow their flavor.

Sprouts fenugreek seeds salad

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup sprouted fenugreek seeds
  • 1 carrot, 1 cucumber, 1 tomato, 1 onion
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp chat masala

Instructions:

Our sprouted fenugreek seeds are ready for delicious and healthy salad. Chopped all veggies. n a bowl add all ingredients and mix well. Now our healthy sprouts fenugreek seeds salad is ready to serve.

Fenugreek and Potato

Ingredients:

  • 2 big aloo peel and cut into cubes
  • 1 tbsp. Fenugreek seeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 1/2 tbsp. red chili power
  • 2 tbsp. Oil, salt

Instructions:

In a pressure cooker add oil add add fenugreek sauté and add Aloo add turmeric powder red chili powder and salt add half cup water and close the lid. One whistles on high flame on low flame turn of gas fenugreek potato is ready served with flatbread.

Fenugreek Flatbread

Ingredients:

  • 250 gm flour
  • 1 medium onion, 2 boiled potatoes
  • Vegetable oil, Salt, Water
  • Spices
  • 1 tbsp. fenugreek seeds
  • 1 tsp dried fenugreek leaves, 1/2 tsp fennel seeds

Instructions:

In a pan take oil and light fry fenugreek seeds soaked overnight and fennel seeds. Add onions and fry and then take out the spices and onions, dried fenugreek leaves and add in flour. Add few boiled potatoes to make it mushy and add water, salt, oil to make the dough. Now make small balls and keep for 10 minutes. Roll into flatbread. Light fry paratha in oil and serve with garlic pickle to enjoy.
