Iron Neck Pro

The Basics:

  1. Iron Neck is worn around the head and attached to a resistance band or cable pulley machine to create horizontal tension (otherwise it's just a really cool, tight fitting hat). Because horizontal forces are applied from such a high lever point, the entire body is forced to engage in isometric muscle activation.
  2. Simply standing in place (while facing the anchor point) fully engages the posterior neck muscles, as well as the lower back, glutes, hamstrings, and calves. Everything from your neck to the floor is working to keep from being pulled over by the horizontal force.
  3. Unlike other training methods, Iron Neck has a 360 degree track that allows you to rotate in place and seamlessly shift muscle activation around the entire body. Based on the direction you're facing, different muscle groups are recruited to resist the horizontal force (which maintains the same line of pull at all times).
  4. Facing away from the anchor point engages the anterior neck muscles and the core. Most people are weakest in this position.
  5. Keep the shoulders square and rotate the head left and right to increase range of motion and neck strength in every position. Progress up to protraction/retraction and diagonal movements, then eventually figure eights and more core focused exercises.
  6. You can also adjust the pivot joint (rotate at the waist versus the neck) or adjust anchor position (lower the anchor point to accomplish sideways diagonals) to vary your workout.
  7. Optimize your workout by pairing Iron Neck with other exercises such as band pull-aparts, DB/KB raises, and medicine ball twists (or throws). Rate of force development, explosiveness, torque, and power can all be enhanced in these combos.

Attaining the right fit with Iron Neck includes proper use of the head strap. Your unit should rest just above the brow when your head strap is properly sized. Use the colored indicators to quickly adjust to your head size if sharing your Iron Neck with others.

Iron Neck front pads are interchangeable to ensure the perfect fit for everyone. With each purchase, you receive a size front pad. The Small front pad is 1 1/2" thick and intended for small sized heads (cap sizes 6.5"-7", or head circumference 20.5"-22"). The Medium front pad is 1" thick and intended for medium sized heads (cap sizes 7"-7.5", or head circumference 22"-23.5"). The Large front pad is 1/2" thick and intended for larger heads (cap sizes 7.5"-8", or head circumference 23.5"-25").

Adjust Head Strap

The Iron Neck should rest just above your eye brows and top of your ears. This is an easy adjustment that once you've made once you will always know which marking is right for you.

Put On Unit

First, tilt the Iron Neck forward 45 degrees. Position your forehead so the bottom of the front pad sits just above the eyebrows, then pull over the back of your head. If it's your first time, you may need to adjust the head strap slightly to make sure it's in the proper position.

Inflate With AirFit Technology

Pump the AirFit Bulb so that the rear pad has firmly grabbed a hold of your head. Once you're going through the movements, you can inflate more air or use the air release button to deflate, as necessary.

Clip In Chin Strap

The chin strap does not need to be tight on the chin, but rather hanging loosely underneath. It is not meant to be an anchor point, but simply a safety precaution.
