• Malic acid is a natural fruit acid most commonly found in apples. Our food grade Malic Acid Powder is a natural sour agent and preservative used to add sour flavors to candy or vinegar flavor in potato chips and snack foods.
• For wine making, Malic Acid lowers pH a bit less than Tartaric acid and is less sour. Excellent for making acid adjustments in Gewurztraminer, Muscat, and Reisling wines when Tartaric acid is not appropriate. You do not want to add malic acid to any wine that will undergo a malolactic fermentation.
• Store in a cool, dry place. We do not recommend refrigeration or freezing of the powder.

Gummy Bears

Recipe Ideas:

Ingredients
  • 2 tsp Hoosier Hill Farm Agar Agar Powder
  • 1 cup fruit punch
  • 2-3 Tbsp sugar
Optional for Sour Gummy Bears:

  • 4-6 tsp Hoosier Hill Farm Malic Acid
  • 2 cups sugar

Fruit Punch Gummy Bears

Prep: 20 min | Cook: 10 min | Yield: 200 gummy bears

Step one: Place gummy bear mold on a tray and set aside.

Step two: In a saucepan, bring juice, sugar, and agar agar to a boil. Remove from heat after boiling for 1 minute and allow to cool for about 5-10 minutes.

Step three: Using a dropper, drop liquid into the little bears until the mold is filled.

Step four: Transfer the tray with the filled mold to the fridge and let harden for 10-20 minutes.

Step five: Once hardened, take the mold out of the fridge and pop them out onto a plate or into a container.

Step six (optional): For sour gummy bears, mix together 2 cups of sugar with 4-6 tsp Malic Acid. Toss the gummies until well coated and store in a container on the counter top.
