Johnson Reviews

Growing Up Italian-American is a wealth of knowledge. It's an exceptional read, much more than a memoir. History and culture share equally with family memories. As we pass through the 150 years of these two families' lives, we become acquainted with many historical Italian and Italian American events explained in detail and often with accompanying photographs. The author doesn't miss much. Growing Up Italian-American is a wealth of knowledge. For those researching genealogy, Dr. Visco's references and method will surely be an asset.
Linda Brinkley's Book Corner - IAHF NEWS - Italian American Heritage Foundation, San Jose, CA.

Dr. Visco has created a stunningly detailed unique and beautiful contribution to American Literature.
Francis N. Elmi, Ph.D.
Professor Emeritus
City University of New York

There is much to learn as Dr. Ferdinand Visco celebrates Italian culture as lived by the Baratta and Visco immigrant families.
Salvatore J. LaGumina, Ph.D.
Director, Center for Italian American Studies
Nassau Community College

A beautifully written book that was hard to put down.  It is everyone's story, and I invite everybody to read it.
Cav. Josephine A. Buscaglia Maietta - President of the Association of Italian American Educators. Radio Host & Producer of Sabato Italiano WRHU (Hofstra University).

"Growing Up Italian-American" paints an authentic portrait of the Italian American immigrant experience.
Cav. Gilda Rorro Ed.D. - Honorary Vice Consul for Italy, Author of "Gilda, Promise Me."

It's an amazing book that contains a wealth of information. This book needed to be written. True stories of good people.  Parts are laugh-out-loud funny, and it contains great recipes too.
Bill Russo - Italian American Historian. Host of the Bill Russo Radio Show.

Whether you grew up in NYC, Philly, Boston, or any other immigrant Italian neighborhood in the world, this book is for you. Growing Up Italian American is a super book by Dr. Ferdinand Visco.  Dr. V. gives us an inside look into the Baratta and Visco families.... many of whom became pharmacists and doctors.  While they never lost sight of their roots, they believed in America and its values.
Bob Sorrentino - Host of the Italian Genealogy Blog and Podcast.

Excellent, solid research and compelling stories. Any Italian-American, regardless of where his or her family is from, can appreciate Dr. Visco's work because it breathes into life the words of our heritage: family, friends, food, camaraderie, honor......the list goes on......Bravo, Dr. Visco.
Stephanie Longo - Author of "Italians of Lackawanna County." Associate Producer and Chief Administrative Officer of The Italian American Podcast.  Originally posted via Ovunque Siamo: New Italian-American Writing.

An Amazing Tour de Force in the Journey of Italian Americans.
Anthony LoFaso  - Host of "The AC Lowe Show."  Author of "The History of The Village of Yorkville."

A Fond Journey Back in Time. This is a very reader-friendly book. The vignettes are so vivid, one can almost hear Tito Schipa's version of  "Comme Facette Mammeta" in the background at the turn of the previous century, and the Mario Lanza rendition as the author, Dr.Visco, came of age.
Constantinos E. Scaros - Author of "Grumpy Old Party."
