About the Author

Barbara Lorraine Michiels Hernandez received her Ph.D. from Texas Woman’s University and her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Northwestern State University of Louisiana.She is currently a Professor at Lamar University of Texas in the Department of Health and Kinesiology.Previous university teaching experiences were at Northwestern State University of Louisiana, Missouri Southern State College at Joplin, Pittsburg State University of Kansas, and Texas Wesleyan University. She has been a public school teacher, dancer and artistic director, and Executive Director for the National Dance Association.She is a widely published journal and book author and presenter and a reviewer for professional journals.Barbara is a Certified Health Education Specialist and a Certified Dance Educator.Her specialty areas are women’s & dancer’s health, and teacher certification & standards. She was inducted as a Research Fellow for the Research Consortium of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance in 2009.Dr. Hernandez is a member of Eta Sigma Gamma and founded the Delta Omicron chapter at Lamar University.Her professional service activities have been at the international, national, state, and local levels.
