Product Description

Divorce is difficult for all family members, but for children who have to deal with parental conflict, transitioning between two homes, overwhelming and confused feelings, and a host of other challenges, divorce can be particularly tough. Children are often anxious or reluctant to talk about the divorce and other complex issues.

In
Creative Interventions for Children of Divorce, award-winning author and international keynote speaker Liana Lowenstein outlines her most innovative tools including therapeutic games, art, puppets, and stories, designed to help children safely express their thoughts and feelings, and learn ways to cope.

This creative collection presents
easy-to-use reproducible activities for use in therapeutic or school settings on essential issues:

• Parental conflict
• Transitioning between two homes
• Feelings of anger, sadness, guilt
• Reunification fantasies
• Loyalty conflicts
• Parental estrangement
• Alienation
• Dating and remarriage

The book also includes
essential theoretical information, key guidelines for practitioners, reproducible parent questionnaire and handouts, creative rapport-building exercises, innovative assessment activities, ten-week group curriculum, interventions for family sessions, sample treatment plan, useful forms, and more!

Review

This volume is a great contribution to the library of therapists who work with very young children of divorce. It provides imaginative, engaging activities for children and includes parents on the therapeutic path with specific tips and handouts. Inventive and unique! --Dr. Helen Radovanovic, C. Psych. Registered Psychologist in Private Practice

This manual offers creative, play-based techniques for working with young children coping with divorce. I have used many of the interventions myself and have found them to be exciting and illuminating for these young children. --Laurie Stein, LLB, MSW, RSW, Connections Child and Family Counselling

The playful and engaging activities for children and the handouts for parents make this book a valuable resource for clinicians working with young children impacted by divorce. I will use this book again and again. --Pam Dyson, MA, LPC, RPT, Director, St. Louis Center for Play Therapy Training
